Individual Satyagraha And Haryana

  • Mahatma Gandhi started the Individual Satyagraha Movement on 17th October, 1940 against the policies of the British rule.
  • Many people were arrested during this Satyagraha in Rohtak, Ambala, Hisar, Karnal and Gurugram. The maximum number of individuals were arrested in Rohtak, Ambala and Hisar districts, respectively.
  • In support of this movement, many leaders like Gopichand Bhargava, Pt Nekiram Sharma, Chaudhary Sahab Ram and Lala Shyamlal from Hisar; Shriram Sharma and Rao Mangliram from Rohtak; Syed Mulalvi and Mahashya Bhagwan Das from Gurugram Hammed Hussain from Karnal and Dulichand and Prem Prakash Azad from Ambala were arrested.
  • The second phase of the movement started on 10th January, 1940. In this phase also, Hisar district was at the forefront of Satyagraha.
  • The third phase of the movement started from 10th April, 1941. Rohtak district stood first in this phase. Around 73 people were arrested in Rohtak.
  • Quit India Movement

  • With the announcement of this movement on 8th August, 1942, there were demonstrations at railway stations, post offices, telegraph offices and police stations in Haryana. After the arrest of the big leaders, the people themselves organised the movement.
